Cavan-Monaghan U15 1-1 Dundalk FC U15
EA Sports U15 National Underage League Shield Group A
Dundalk U15s were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw away to Cavan-Monaghan in a tight game on Sunday afternoon.
Having been defeated in their opening Shield Group A game, the Lilywhites were keen to get back on track with a positive result in what proved to be a tough encounter.
The game was a story of two contrasting sides, with Cavan-Monaghan playing direct football from the outset, while Conor Woods’ side looked to play a possession based game, which proved to be the more rewarding of the tactical plans as Dundalk caused their opponents some major problems in the first period, just lacking a quality final ball to take full advantage.
However, it was the hosts who would take the lead against the run of play, leaving Dundalk with a hill to climb for the remainder of the game.
The visitors continued to build some promising attacks with some spells of real quality in possession as they looked to wear Cavan-Monaghan down.
Dundalk continued to work hard to wear down a physical home side, and they were finally rewarded as Dino Costin scored an excellent free kick to draw his side level.
The Lilywhites continued to push forward in search of a winner, but time ran out and they were forced to settle for a point away from home.
It is a result to build on for Dundalk, who will be hopeful of building on the point gained on Sunday when they take on Cabinteely this Sunday, September 19th at Oriel Park.
