Dundalk FC U14 3-1 Cavan-Monaghan U14
National League U14 Cup
Lashawn Lombard, Fionn McNamara and Runako Sweetman were all on target as Dundalk FC’s U14 team advanced to the second round of the National League Cup with a 3-1 win over Cavan-Monaghan at Oriel Park on Saturday afternoon.
After a sloppy start from the hosts, the visitors capitalised on a short back pass to take the lead just a few minutes into the game.
It took about 10 minutes for Dundalk to get started but they eventually took control and began to play their natural game. The Lilywhites began to open their opponents up and they soon equalised when Lashawn Lombard got on the end of a quality corner kick from Cian Murphy to level the score.
Murphy was instrumental to Dundalk’s play as they went on to take the lead on the half-hour mark. He whipped in another high-quality corner and captain for the day Fionn McNamara headed home to put Simon Kelly’s side in front.
The Lilywhites started the second half much better than they started the first period, immediately taking control and putting Cavan-Monaghan on the back foot.
The Lilywhites continued to turn the screw and they soon added a third goal to their tally for the afternoon when Runako Sweetman pounced on a loose back pass before rounding the keeper and finishing into an empty net to make it 3-1.
Up next for Dundalk FC U14s is a league clash away to Galway United on Wednesday, August 4th at 7:30pm.
