Friday night’s game with Shelbourne is the first at Oriel Park since the passing of our former manager Jim McLaughlin.
Before the match gets underway, we will pay tribute to the man who guided Dundalk to 13 major trophies and a host of memorable European nights during his nine-year spell at the club between 1974 and 1983.
Richie Blackmore and Willie Crawley, two of Jim’s stalwarts from his glorious spell at Oriel Park will place a wreath and a framed picture of ‘The McLaughlin Era’ on the centre circle.
Jim’s time at Shelbourne, where he helped the club win the league and FAI Cup in the early nineties, will also be remembered by the presence of Shels official Niall Fitzmaurice before the referee will blow for a minute’s applause.
Friday’s pre-match collection is in aid of The Birches Alzheimer Day Centre, who looked after Jim so well in his later years.
The match programme for next Thursday’s match with St Patrick’s Athletic is also heavily dedicated to the former Dundalk FC boss.
Printed before last Sunday’s postponed game with Pat’s, we will be using the same programme for the rescheduled fixture and apologise in advance for some of the content that may now be out of date.
