Four of our academy players have been named in the Republic of Ireland Schools squad for the Hummel Centenary Shield opener against Scotland on Thursday night.
Eoin Kenny (St Mary’s College, Dundalk), Senan Mullen (St Aidan’s Comprehensive School, Cootehill), Callum Bonner (St Patrick’s Classical School, Navan) and Aidan Russell Vargas (Lusk Community College) are all part of John McShane’s panel for the game with the Tartan Army at the hone of Renfrew FC.
The scholars got their 2023 campaign off to a cracking start with a 2-1 victory over Australia in a friendly at Whitehall last month with Kenny finding his way onto the scoresheet.
Eoin, Callum, Senan and Aidan will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of current Dundalk centre-back, Andy Boyle, and former players Daryl Horgan, Jamie McGrath and Sean Maguire who all played in the tournament.
The game in Scotland is followed by match two against reigning champions Wales in Ferrycarrig Park, Wexford on Thursday, March 9th.
Ireland host England on Friday, March 24th in Athlone before they conclude their campaign against Northern Ireland in Belfast on Thursday, March 30th.
All of the games kick off at 7pm and will be streamed live via the Recast streaming platform, on the Hummel Centenary Shield channel, for just £3 per fixture.
