Stephen O’Donnell says he is happy with Dundalk’s progress after the Lilywhites brought the curtain down on pre-season with a 3-1 win over Wexford FC at at Oriel Park on Tuesday night.
A brace from Ryan O’Kane, coupled with a goal from Cameron Elliott, saw off James Keddy’s side and, speaking to dundalkfc.com, O’Donnell said he was now looking forward to the League of Ireland opener against UCD on February 17th.
This is what the Dundalk head coach had to say after the game.
On Wexford….
“It was a good workout. We played well in parts and it was good to get more minutes in the legs. We managed to get a lot of bodies on the pitch so it was good. We are happy with the performance and the result. We had a strong bench as well which is what we want. It’s a good way to end pre-season and bring it into the start of the season next week.”
On the squad…
“I think the new boys have done well. I am very pleased with who we have got in, I think they have settled in well into the group. They have made a good impression and they are all good players, good lads. We are nearly there now in terms of squad, we are working hard to get a couple more in before the window closes in a few weeks.”
On pre-season….
“Yeah, it was a good schedule for us. It was a bit stop-start with injuries and different things but as we got through it we managed to get a few back and we look like we have a strong squad. We are missing a few but they’ll be back in time, so all in all the pre-season has gone well and it is all systems go for the opener next week. “
On the season ahead…
“We are looking forward to it. It’s a long season and we will be ready for it. We have been preparing well. It’s going to be tough but we are ready to get going now. We have just over a week to get ourselves right for UCD but it’s good to start at home and we are all raring to go.”
