We are delighted to announce that local defender Mayowa Animasahun has signed a new contract with the Lilywhites.
The 20-year-old, who had a short stint at St Kevin’s Boys before spending three years at Bohemians, returned to his hometown club at the beginning of the 2020 season.
He signed his first professional deal with Dundalk after turning 18 in August of that year and followed that up by coming off the bench to make his first-team debut in an FAI Cup tie against St Mochta’s at Oriel Park.
A successful loan spell at Dungannon Swifts saw him gain valuable first-team experience during the 2022-23 NIFL campaign before he returned to Oriel Park last summer.
The former Glenmuir United schoolboy was ineligible to play a part in the remainder of the League of Ireland season and he said he was hungry to make up for lost time.
“I’ve had to wait a while to get back in a Dundalk shirt so I’m excited to get back and show the fans and the likes of my family, friends and the people I’ve grown up with in town what I can do,” he said.
“I had a few cameo appearances in 2021 that I enjoyed but now I want to step on, enjoy my football and try and get into the team regularly.”
“The growth that Mayowa has made, both in his quality and fitness levels, since I first came to the club has been huge,” said Lilywhites head coach Stephen O’Donnell.
“He has massive scope to develop and he has every attribute you would want from a defender. He has been training well since he returned from his loan spell last summer and now we want to see him develop even more in games.“
