Dundalk FC 4-0 Balbriggan
NEFL Women’s Division North
Dundalk Ladies welcomed Balbriggan to Oriel Park on Monday night, looking to get back on track after a couple of disappointing results in recent weeks.
The Lilywhites got off to a good start, controlling the game in the early minutes. After creating some promising chances they finally found the breakthrough on the 20 minute mark, with Beth Hughes poking home following a scramble in the box.
Balbriggan put huge pressure on Dundalk in search of an equaliser, but struggled to open the home side up as the teams went in level at the break.
The visitors picked up where they left off as the second half got underway, controlling the ball and pinning Dundalk in their own half.
Despite their pressure, they couldn’t find that elusive equaliser and Dundalk soon fought back, as some great play in midfield found its way to Stephanie Cunningham who slotted home to make it 2-0 on 65 minutes.
Eddie Conroy’s side regained control after the second goal, and added another ten minutes later, as Beth Hughes’ superb pass found Caoimhe Crichton, who made no mistake with her finish.
The Lilywhites made sure of the win with 10 minutes to go, as Dayna Ferguson picked out Cunningham with a ball to the back post, and she finished to bag her second of the game.
The win leaves Dundalk a point off the top at the halfway stage of the league season. Next for the Lilywhites is a local derby with Quay Celtic.
