Jimmy Redmond RIP

Jimmy Redmond made his mark in Irish football as a skillful and reliable winger, most memorably during Dundalk FC’s 1962-63 League of Ireland title-winning campaign.

Originally from Stella Maris and signed from Workman's’ Club in late 1962, Redmond impressed against Dundalk in a Leinster Senior Cup game—so much so that he was signed immediately. He made his debut on 25 November 1962 in a 2-1 home win over Cork Celtic and went on to become a key figure on the right wing for the rest of the season.

He played in 19 league games and scored six goals, missing only two fixtures—one due to a missed train and another when he took time off to get married. A standout moment came in a 2-0 win over his old club, Cork Hibernians, where his goal helped set up Dundalk’s dramatic final-day title success.

Though he left the club at the end of that season, Redmond’s contributions were vital to Dundalk lifting their first league title in 20 years.

Redmond, James (Jamsie), aged 87, passed away peacefully on 7th April 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Predeceased by his wife Mary, he is survived by his children Carol, Martin, Paul, Raymond, Muriel, Oliver, and Amanda, and by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and friends.

Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
