Han Jeongwoo was back in the team and back on the scoresheet in Dundalk’s 5-1 win over St Mochta’s in the Extra.ie FAI Cup on Friday night.
The 22-year-old scored Dundalk’s fifth goal in the comfortable win over the Leinster Senior League side and, speaking to dundalkfc.com after the game, Han said he was delighted to be back in the starting XI after a period of recent cameos from the bench.
“I’m very happy to get on the scoresheet,” he said. “It’s been a while since I’ve scored and it’s also my first goal in the FAI Cup, I’m so happy to score and get the win.”
“As a footballer, I want to play every day and play in every match. Today, I got the opportunity to start and it felt good to be back in the team.”
Despite controlling possession for much of the first half, Dundalk went in at the break level after Gareth McCaffrey’s 12th-minute strike cancelled out Sami Ben Amar’s opener but Han felt there was a big improvement in the second period.
“I think we struggled in the first half because they were full of energy, but Patrick Hoban scored early in the second half, which helped us to improve and add more goals.”
With the Lilywhites now two wins away from a trip to the Aviva for the final in late November, Han sees it as a big opportunity to win a trophy and he hopes to be heavily involved throughout the rest of the tournament.
“Of course I want to be in the team in the next rounds. I’ll work harder in training and hopefully, I’ll do enough to be involved in both the league and cup games for the remainder of the season”
