Dundalk FC can confirm that Brian Gartland has sustained an ACL tear to his left knee.
The Lilywhites defender sustained the injury in the 2-1 loss to Shamrock Rovers last week and will undergo surgery on April 30th.
Speaking about Gartland’s injury in the DFC Magazine ahead of Friday night’s SSE Airtricity League clash with Bohemians, Lilywhites coach Filippo Giovagnoli backed the five-time league winner to make a swift recovery.
“When myself and Giuseppe Rossi arrived here last year we didn’t know anybody and Brian gained his spot in the team through his performances. He did so well, he was amazing. For us, he was a pillar on and off the pitch.
“Right now, he has this injury but Brian is a strong man. He’s a really important figure for us and for our team so he will stay with the group while he recovers.
“We know he’s going to get over this and he’s going to do everything he has to do to heal and we hope to see him back soon.”
Everybody at the club would like to wish Brian a speedy recovery and we look forward to seeing him back on the pitch in the not too distant future.
