Brian Gartland will have a scan to assess the injury he sustained in Friday night’s 2-1 defeat against Shamrock Rovers at Tallaght Stadium.

The Lilywhites centre-back, who was starting his first game of the campaign, left the pitch on a stretcher after falling awkwardly inside the opening 90 seconds of the game.

Gartland left the ground on crutches and speaking to dundalkfc.com afterwards, Dundalk team manager Shane Keegan gave an early update on the 34-year-old’s condition.

“It’s too early to know the moment but you’d assume it’s reasonably serious because Brian is a warrior and if he goes down like that, you know it’s serious,” said Keegan.

“He is in the dressing room and he’s chatting away which is good to see. He didn’t have to go to hospital but he will have to have a scan as soon as possible to assess the damage.”
