The Dundalk FC futsal team is gearing up for the return of the League of Ireland Down Syndrome Futsal Festival Series at the National Sports Campus this weekend.

The event, which is part of Down Syndrome Awareness month, kicks off at 12pm on Sunday, October 6th in the Indoor Arena at the National Sports Campus, Abbotstown, Dublin.

The inaugural LOI Down Syndrome Futsal event took place in June with Finn Harps running out overall winners as they edged out Dundalk in a thrilling final.

Since then, the Dundalk squad has been training hard – see above – and hopes are high that the Lilywhites can bring the newly formed Cairdeas Cup trophy back to Oriel Park.

The League of Ireland Down Syndrome Futsal Festival Series initiative was the start of a collaboration between the FAI Football For All programme and the League of Ireland, run through each club’s Football and Social Responsibility (FSR) Officers, and provides players with Down Syndrome countrywide with an opportunity to line out for their local League of Ireland clubs.

As well as Dundalk FC, the following clubs will take part in the upcoming Down Syndrome Futsal Festival: Bohemians, Bray Wanderers, Cork City, Derry City, Finn Harps, Shelbourne, Sligo Rovers, Wexford.
