We have been drawn away to Drogheda United in the second round of this year’s Sports Direct Men’s FAI Cup.
The tie at Weaver’s Park is scheduled to take place on the weekend of July 21st, a week after the sides meet in a league game at Oriel Park, and must be settled on the night.
The Louth Derby is one of three all-Premier Division ties in the second round with Bohemians drawn at home to Shamrock Rovers while 2022 winners Derry City were paired at home to 2023 winners, and present cup holders, St Patrick’s Athletic.
This will be the 13th time that Dundalk have met Drogheda United in the competition and the first on Boyneside since the infamous semi-final back in 2013 when Stephen Kenny’s nine-man Lilywhites were controversially beaten 1-0.
The last FAI Cup meeting between the Louth clubs took place at Oriel Park in September 2017 when Dundalk ran out 4-0 winners before they were eventually beaten on penalties by Cork City in the final.
