Dundalk FC U19 2-2 Drogheda United U19
EA Sports U19 National Underage League Group B
Ebuka Kwelele bagged a brace as the Dundalk FC U19 team came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw at home to Drogheda United in their first EA SPORTS National Underage League Louth Derby of the 2021 season.
The first half was one to forget for the Lilywhites who found themselves two goals behind at the interval. Drogheda pounced on a lapse in concentration to make the breakthrough and take the lead early on and they doubled their advantage just before the break when Jamie Barry was left helpless from the penalty spot.
Head coach Stephen McDonnell made a change at the break to try to turn things around as Sean Bannon replaced David Doyle and Dundalk got the second half off to the perfect start when Ebuka Kwelele headed home his fourth goal of the season to get his side back in the game after an excellent cross from Jack Watters.
The Lilywhites dominated the second half and created a number of chances as they went in searched of an equaliser and they were finally rewarded for their efforts in the fourth minute of stoppage time when Ronan Kilkenny’s quality corner found the head of Kwelele once again and he made no mistake to bury the chance and secure the Lilywhites a well-deserved point.
Next up for the U19s is an away trip to Athlone Town on Sunday, August 1st at 12pm.
