Dundalk FC are delighted to announce the signing of experienced striker Dean Ebbe, who was the top scorer in last season’s SSE Airtricity Men’s First Division with Athlone Town.

The 30-year-old has vast experience across Ireland and Britain, having played with Shamrock Rovers and Crusaders among others here, while also enjoying a number of successful seasons in Wales, where he played in Europe.

Following an outstanding season with Athlone in 2024, where he notched 20 goals in all competitions, Ebbe was nominated for the PFA Ireland Men’s First Division Player of the Year and was named in the PFAI First Division Team of the Year.

Dundalk’s first-team manager Ciarán Kilduff was over Athlone Town Women last season and is very familiar with Ebbe having also been at Rovers at the same time as him in his playing days in 2012 and 2013. And Ebbe is relishing the opportunity at Oriel Park.

“Dundalk is a massive club. Talking to Ciarán and talking to a few ex-players, they were saying that I have to go here. I’m looking forward to it, hopefully it’s a good season,” Ebbe told DFCTV.

“Ciarán got in touch with my agent. He was at Athlone last season and watched a lot of the games. I met up with him and he gave me a few ideas of what he wants to do for the coming year. I really liked it so I came on board.

“He explained it, it’s a clean slate now. All that off-the-field stuff is done now, all we can do is concentrate on football and hopefully get us back to where we belong.

“Some of my friends are ex-players here and said how massive it is, the European nights, you’re talking about playing Arsenal only recently. Big nights here are meant to be special, so I’m looking forward to it.”

Described by Dundalk’s management team as having “a canny ability to be in positions inside the box to score goals frequently”, Ebbe, who will provide a real presence with his physical strength, will be “a central part to Dundalk’s attacking unit this season”.

Welcome to Oriel, Dean!
