Drogheda United U19 0-2 Dundalk FC U19
EA Sports U19 National Underage League Shield Group A
Brandon Holt and Michael Keyes both got on the scoresheet as the U19s extended their unbeaten run to three games with a win over Drogheda United.
The first half was a tight affair, with Dundalk having more of the ball but both sides created opportunities without really testing the goalkeepers.
The sides went in level at the break, but the Lilywhites began to take full control at the start of the second period and began to open Drogheda up down the left wing.
Dundalk’s ruthless attacking play down the left paid dividends five minutes into the second half, as Ryan O’Kane cut inside before being dragged down in the box, which left the referee with no choice but to point to the spot. Brandon Holt stepped up to take the spot kick and calmly slotted it home to give Stephen McDonnell’s side the lead.
The visitors continued to threaten after taking the lead and they bagged a second just fifteen minutes later, as Cathal O’Reilly’s long throw into the box was flicked to the back post by David Doyle and Michael Keyes was on hand to aim his half volley into the bottom corner.
Drogheda tried to get back into the game after conceding the second, but couldn’t break through the solid Dundalk backline, who saw the game out to extend their unbeaten run to three games heading into next weekend’s clash with Finn Harps at Oriel Park.
