Our WU17 team produced a battling display against Shamrock Rovers side at Roadstone on Saturday.
EA SPORTS WU17 League of Ireland Group A
Shamrock Rovers 4-0 Dundalk FC WU17
In very stormy conditions, which saw four seasons of weather in one day, a young Dundalk side put in a very good performance against a well-established Rovers team which included nine international players.
One of those was Lauren McCabe, younger sister of senior international captain Katie, who found the net in the second half to maintain Rovers’ 100% start to the season.
Anna Butler put the home side in front after just three minutes but Dundalk, who were captained by Aoife Fanning, twin sister of Rovers goalkeeper, Aoife, took hold after that and put in a very good first half with most of the battle going on in the middle of the pitch.
Rovers had the wind behind them in the second half and, with their experience starting to tell as the game wore on, they added a further three goals before the end.
Bernard Freeman’s side host Longford Town, who are also searching for their first points of the season, at Oriel Park on Saturday.
