Dundalk FC U19 2-0 Cabinteely U19
EA Sports U19 National Underage League Shield Group A
An Ebuka Kwelele brace secured Dundalk U19s their first win of phase two of the EA Sports U19 Shield against Cabinteely on Sunday afternoon.
After being named in Vinny Perth’s matchday squad for the FAI Cup tie against Finn Harps five days earlier, Kwelele, Enda Douglas, Michael Keyes, Jeff Nwodo and Jack Kavanagh all returned to the side.
The Lilywhites took control early on and never let the game slip from their grasp over the 90 minutes, restricting Cabinteely throughout and creating a number of chances to open the scoring.
Kwelele broke the deadlock early on, before bagging his second of the game just before halftime to put his side in full control at the break.
The second half continued in a similar vein to the first, as Cabinteely struggled to create many opportunities due to some excellent Dundalk defending, and the Lilywhites saw the game out to take all three points for the first time in this group.
It was a well-rounded performance from Stephen McDonnell’s side, who will look to build on this in next week’s Louth Derby away to Drogheda United on Sunday, October 2nd at 2pm.
