We invite all Dundalk FC and League of Ireland supporters to join us at Oriel Park on Thursday afternoon to pay tribute to one of the town’s great characters, the late Mark ‘Maxi’ Kavanagh.

An ambassador for the club – and indeed the town and people of Dundalk – Maxi tragically slipped away in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda on Friday night.

His passing has left an indelible mark on his family, the club and the wider community.

Maxi’s funeral will take place on Thursday at 1pm in the Church of the Holy Redeemer.

After the mass, Maxi will pay one last visit to his beloved Oriel Park, where his remains will pass by the front of the ground and in behind the Carrick End goal.

Bob Marley’s ‘Three Little Birds’ and David Keenan’s ‘El Paso’ will then be played over the PA in tribute to one of our most loyal and dedicated supporters.

We are asking for all Dundalk FC supporters to join us in the main stand from 2pm onwards and to wear your jerseys, wave your flags and hold your scarves aloft for the tribute.

Please note that car parking at the ground is seriously restricted so we would ask all supporters to attend on foot wherever possible.

The funeral cortège will then leave Oriel Park en route to St Patrick’s Cemetery for burial.

Everyone is invited back to the Lilywhite Lounge from 4pm onwards for refreshments and to share their memories of Maxi.

Maxi was Dad to Shannon, Dearbhla and Cayla, and a father figure to many. He was Gaga to Bréa and Dannan, a son of Angela and the late Seán, brother of Sandra, Gerard, Seán, Michael, Darren and the late Caroline and Andrew.

He will be sorely missed by his heartbroken daughters, grandchildren, mother, sisters, brothers, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, extended family and friends.

Reposing in the Eternity Room of Quinn’s Funeral Homes on Castletown Road on Tuesday, October 1st and Wednesday, October 2nd from 3pm-8pm, there will also be a Celebration of His Life on Wednesday at 8pm.

Removal takes place on Thursday, October 3rd at 12.15pm, proceeding on foot to the Church of the Holy Redeemer, arriving for Funeral Mass at 1pm.

Family flowers only, please. Donations, if desired, to SOSAD and the Harry Taaffe Community Recovery Fund, donations box and envelopes in the funeral home and Church or to SOSAD online by clicking this link
