The Dundalk FC Futsal team will compete in the inaugural League of Ireland Down Syndrome Futsal Festival at Gormanston Sports Complex in Co Meath this Sunday.

This fantastic new initiative, which is a collaboration between the FAI Football For All programme and the League of Ireland via the clubs’ Football and Social Responsibility (FSR) Officers, will provide male and female players aged 16 and over with Down Syndrome with an opportunity to line out for their local clubs.

The club launched its first ever futsal team in March and two of the Lilywhites players, Jamie Linden and Micheal McCloy, were part of the Republic of Ireland squad that took part in a recent training camp and friendly match against the USA.

Both of the lads were also part of the Irish Down Syndrome futsal team which competed at the SUDS European Championships in Padova, Italy last year. These trailblazing players who played admirably against more experienced national teams, have now paved the way for the development of a grassroots Down Syndrome Futsal programme.

As well as Dundalk FC, the following clubs will take part in the Down Syndrome Futsal Festival on June 8th: Shelbourne, Cork City, Finn Harps, Wexford FC, Bohemians and Sligo Rovers.
