Although he was disappointed with the result, Stephen O’Donnell said there were positive signs to take from Dundalk’s 2-1 defeat to Bohemians at Dalymount Park.
Goals from Jordan Flores and Declan McDaid either side of the break put the Gypsies in command and although Johannes Yli-Kokko came off the bench to pull one back, the Lilywhites could not fashion an equaliser.

On the positives…
“I know people look at the results in that we’ve got one point from two games, but I’m quite optimistic. I can see progression, I can see where we might end up and I’m quite excited by that. Obviously, it’s going to take a little bit of time for everyone to gel. Arguably, you could say the season started maybe just a tiny little bit early for us but I think we’ll keep building and I think we’ll keep getting stronger and stronger.”
On the Bohs goals…
“I’m obviously disappointed with the goals and the timing of them, one just before half time and then when we had a foothold in the game we gave up an inexcusable goal really to go 2-0 down.”
On the new signings…
“Johannes came in on Monday and he showed good quality. It’s not easy coming into a game like that, where it’s a high tempo. As I said, he’s only been in here a couple of days and we are very happy with him from a personality standpoint, getting on the ball and being crisp. It was a good strike and he has good composure.
“Rayhann, even though he only come in on Thursday and did a light session showed good touches. He was sharp when he come on. I’m quite excited by the group we have now. We have a lot of options and we’re going to need that straight off the bat next Friday, Monday and Friday.”
On the 500-strong away support…
“They stayed with the team throughout the game. It’s been a little bit of a disruptive week, but we’re looking forward to playing two home games at Oriel next week. We’re going to need everyone. It’s going to be that type of league where I think teams will take points off each other. I’m embracing the challenge of getting the players gelling together, getting on the training ground with them, them getting to know each other individually and us collectively getting better.”
