Dundalk head coach Stephen O’Donnell has called on the club’s supporters to get behind his players and make it a memorable end to the 2022 season.
After going out of the FAI Cup in Waterford two weeks ago, Dundalk are back in league action on Friday night when they take on Drogheda United in the 171st competitive Louth Derby at Casey’s Field.
The Lilywhites currently occupy third place in the table, a position that would secure European football next year, and speaking in a BetRegal One-On-One interview on Tuesday, O’Donnell said the fans could play a vital role in helping Dundalk finish in the top three.
“I want the fans to turn up on Friday evening with the bit between their teeth,” he said. “We’re striving everyday to get Dundalk back to the top of the mountain and we’ve put lots of building blocks in place.
“Things will take a little bit of time but we have six games left, four of them at home, and we need to approach them with a hunger and an eye of the tiger mentality that we had back in 2013 and in 2014.
“I think the players have been brilliant over the season and now we just need that final push from the supporters and the town to really make the culmination to the season a memorable one.”
